Sheffield Pubs
| Sheffield is well known for
its vibrant nightlife. It offers many pubs, both old and new, that'll
give you a good night out. Looking for a good night out down the pub?
You've come to the right place! Take a look at what the Artful Lodger's
got for you!
The Artful Lodger has found the best pubs that there are in the city of Sheffield.
The Cavendish
This large, fashionable pub is always busy. It is spacious and
friendly but while its atmosphere is relaxed by day, it is often
crowded at night, when comedy and quiz nights are scheduled. Solid wood
furniture and unusual lampshades (which are made from oil-drums) add to
the charm. The Cavendish attracts business people by day and a younger,
student-based crowd at night. It has a games area, including three pool
tables, as well as several TV screens, and is always exceptionally busy
during sports events. A large beer garden is popular in warm weather.
Standard bar food is available from around £3.85 (options include the
hot n'spicy chicken burger with chips and vegetarian lasagne). Servings
are generous.

Frog & Parrot
This small, friendly pub is renowned throughout Sheffield for its
home-brewed beer and cocktail jugs. It has a traditional feel and
attracts a good number of young professionals and students. Service is
cheerful and welcoming and the pub is worth a visit for its innovative
drinks menu alone. The "Roger and Out" beer (reputed, at 12.9 % to be
the strongest beer worldwide) is a challenge to even the most hardened
of drinkers. The beer doesn't taste as strong as it is, so caution is
advised. It is served only by the third of a pint, and customers aren't
allowed more than three glasses. Certificates are issued to those who
manage this much! A full bar menu is available all day.

The Lescar
The Lescar probably has the least prepossessing exterior of any pub
in Sheffield, but don't be fooled; there are treasures within. The
taproom and lounge (although neither win any prizes for décor) both
serve a good pint (the options include Stones, Timothy Taylor and
London Pride). Food is available from 5pm to 7pm during the week and is
excellent value. Lasagne, cajun chicken, or a mixed grill all appear on
the menu regularly. But what makes the Lescar so special is what goes
on in the backroom - real live entertainment such as a live band on
Tuesday nights and a Jazz Club on Wednesdays. Most importantly, the
Last Laugh Comedy Club on Thursdays has a national reputation for
innovative comedy. This is Sheffield's own Edinburgh Fringe: don't miss
it!
