Live Music
Sheffield's lively music scene is a good enough reason to come here to University in itself, regardless of the quality of the two educational establishments. The past twelve months have seen the spotlight fall on the sounds of the Steel City with an endless number of local acts garnering praise from all quarters: names like Reverend And The Makers, The Long Blondes, Milburn, Little Man Tate and, of course, Arctic Monkeys all of which have made their way into households across the country. There's plenty more where they came from, though, with Tiny Dancers and The Guild both looking set to follow in their footsteps over the next year.
But the most exciting thing about Sheffield music is that, on any night of the week, you can wander into a local venue and find yourself confronted with something of equal merit across a broad musical spectrum. It's not just indie bands who prop up this scene, there's top quality drum'n'bass acts devastating venues on a regular basis, cultured jazz artists and a thriving hip-hop community to name but three alternative genres.
