The 69 year old painting depicts the Tinsley cooling towers in a dramatic setting and is expected to sell for tens of thousands of pounds.
The painting is being sold in from a private collection situated in America, and it is up for sale through Offer Waterman & Co of London
for £18,000.
It was originally painted by John Holmes Laver in 1938 and depicts the majestic cooling towers nestled in the Sheffield landscape.
It is hoped the picture can be returned to a home in South Yorkshire.
Little
is known about Mr Holmes Laver except that he was a member of Heeley
Art Club – an organisation still popular with painters today – and a
regular pupil of the Sheffield School of Artists. |
