Mosborough is a fab place for those wanting to feel as though they live close to the countryside (the gorgeous Moss Valley), but within a leap of the city. Mosborough is conveniently placed for access to Sheffield (around 8 miles away), Rotherham and Chesterfield. It was in fact part of Derbyshire up until the 1960s and was once well known for its sickle making and coal mining industries.

The downside is that during rush hour you can expect a commute to Sheffield of 35-45 minutes by bus, about 25 minutes by car. Mosborough is served primarily by bus number 21. Although the tram comes in the direction of Mosborough, it does not quite reach far enough for the area.

This is definitely not an area for students. The houses are on the small side and the area is peaceful, yet not too remote, perfect for young families just starting out. Most houses, flats and bungalows are relatively modern, a mixture of privately and socially owned.  If you are lucky, there are some cottages and original terraces from the mining years up for grabs.

Pubs in Mosborough, such as The Alma and The Royal Oak, feel like country locals. It makes for a nice change from less reputable establishments to be found in some neighbouring areas! When visiting Mosborough pubs, be sure to ask locals if they have heard any ghostly mining boots walking through their houses - some are sure to say yes!

The people of Mosborough are very friendly - the local shops are not just for local people. Local amenities for Mosborough are located on High Street. Here you will find basic stores including a convenience store, Post Office and chemist. For the best chips in the area try the Admiral. For shopping further afield there is Crystal Peaks, the most popular mall in Sheffield until Meadowhall opened. Crystal Peaks has the regular chain stores like Topshop, but also a small market, a few independent shops and its own cinema. Crystal Peaks is close to two retail parks which are home to TK Maxx, a large Boots and Halfords. For grocery shopping there is a large Morrisons close by, or Crystal Peaks has a Sainsbury's.

As well as Moss Valley, Rother Valley Country Park is nearby, great for water sports and cycling. Renishaw Hall is also worth a visit and is set in wonderful grounds. Mosborough retains a strong sense of identity and a welcoming ‘village’ atmosphere.
