Loxley
Loxley is one of the most north western suburbs of
Sheffield, lying directly between Hillsborough and Walkley. The area
has a very active community board online at www.loxley.org.uk
and is kept up to date. Loxley is also half way between the
Hillsborough golf club and the Hallamshire golf club if golf is your
thing. The A6101 can take you from Loxley straight
out to the Peak District within a couple of minutes, while the A61 the
other direction will get you into Sheffield Centre in 10 minutes.
Loxley Primary School, Sheffield (Loxley) College, Oughtibridge Junior School, Nook Lane Junior School, and Bradfield School all lie within 2 miles of Loxley – there’s no shortage of choice in the area.
Public buses run every 20 minutes from Loxley to Norton via the centre on the 14, every 30 minutes on Sundays and public holidays. There
are a number of good pubs in the area, from the aptly titled ‘Robin
Hood’ to The Admiral Rodney, Wisewood Inn and The Nag’s Head Inn (free
quiz night on Wednesdays.) The Yew Tree Inn has good online reviews.
Most offer a range of real ales and have beer gardens for the summer.
If you’re coming from out of town, try for a room at Padley Farm – it
has great views, reasonable prices and is a little bit out of town for
some peace and quiet.
Loxley Road has a couple
of garden stores within a stone’s throw of one another and a small
number of independent retail stores offering renovation and DIY
services such as bathrooms, rooflines and building improvements.
The
nearest supermarket in the area is Morrison’s in Hillsborough which is
less than a couple of miles away and has ample parking.
