Abbeydale Road

Abbeydale Road

Abbeydale Road begins only one mile from Sheffield city centre, becoming Abbeydale Road South from Beauchief and continuing all the way out to Dore. Abbeydale road is lined with obscure shops and above-shop accommodation consisting of 1-2 bedroom flats (often acquired by young professionals and students). There are also rows of tall terraced houses up for grabs, ideal for a good priced family home. Just off Abbeydale Road is the cheaper side of the Nether Edge area with affordable terraces, though further into Nether Edge accommodation is more suited to family life.

Del Boy would be on cloud 9 on Abbeydale Road, there are shops that have retro gear, antiques and junk spilling into room after room. The area is known as the ‘Antiques Quarter’. Some junk shops are simply houses accommodating floor to ceiling goods. It's so exciting to look around and you will be sure to have butterflies in your stomach for fear of falling through the creaky floors. The antique and junk shops compliment the historic Abbeydale Picture House, which occasionally has bands playing and volunteers run guided tours a few times a year but unfortunately its days of showing films are long gone.

The best coffee shop on Abbeydale Road has to be Bragazzi’s. The coffee is locally sourced from Pollards. There's even a Lambretta in the window, keeping in touch with the retro feel of the street.

Eating out on Abbeydale Road couldn't be easier. There is Seasons Bistro for a modern British dish, KumQuat Mae for great vegetarian food and cosy Italian Bella Napoli. If you are struggling for a restaurant on Abbeydale Road have no fear, take a 5 minute walk to London Road and pick from a multitude of world cuisines.

You will never have to wait longer than 10 minutes to get a bus from Abbeydale to the city centre, however the traffic jams are constant, so those with a car beware of commuting into town. It's almost easier to hop on a bus and take advantage of the bus lanes. You won't even need to drive to the supermarket, the super sized Tesco on Abbeydale Road runs free buses! For those with a car or legs that are made for walking with shopping, there is a Sainsbury's and Aldi too.
